Getting started — quick overview

Welcome! This page walks you through the first-time experience with your Trézor® device in simple, human-friendly steps. We focus on security best practices while keeping the journey joyful: bright visuals, clear steps, and useful tips so you can protect your crypto assets without stress.

  1. Unbox and inspect. Confirm the package seal is intact and that the device shows no signs of tampering. Keep the packaging and the recovery card that comes with the box.
  2. Connect to power. Use the supplied cable and connect your Trézor® to a trusted computer or mobile device. If your model powers via USB, plug it in; for battery models, charge fully before continuing.
  3. Power on and follow the screen. Turn the device on. The built-in display will walk you through language selection and the official setup flow. Always follow on-device prompts — never rely solely on your computer screen for security confirmations.
  4. Create a new wallet. On first setup choose "Create new wallet". The device will generate a recovery seed — write it down on the supplied recovery card and store it somewhere safe and offline.
  5. Set a PIN. Choose a strong PIN that you can remember but would be hard for others to guess. The device may show PIN entry on the device screen; use that to prevent keyloggers on your computer from observing your PIN.

Why the recovery seed matters: The recovery seed is the single backup for access to your funds. Anyone who reads it can access your assets — treat it like cash. Consider a fireproof safe or a secure deposit box for long-term storage. Do not photograph, email, or store the seed on any cloud service.

Common questions

Can I restore my wallet on another Trézor®?

Yes. Use the device's "Recover wallet" option and carefully enter the recovery seed words in the exact order. The recovery process reconstructs your private keys and accounts.

What if I lose my device?

If your device is lost or damaged, your recovery seed is the way to restore access. As long as you have the seed, your funds are recoverable on another compatible hardware wallet or software that supports your seed type.

How often should I update firmware?

Keep firmware up to date; updates patch security issues and add features. Always apply updates through the official on-device or official desktop flow and verify update prompts on the device display.
